Chata Addy Cultural Programs

Chata has developed a cultural program for school children, which lasts approximately 45 minutes.

The program consists of greeting the children in Ga, his native language, then teaching them the courteous Ghanaian response.

Chata then teaches several traditional songs and dances that he performs in costume to the accompaniment of his solo recordings.

He shares with the children stories about his country; it's location, people and what it's like to grow up in West Africa.

Chata also demonstrates his instruments and describes how each is used in African traditional music, using its Ghanaian name that he has the students repeat. He invites students to volunteer and join him by playing one of other instruments or learning the dance steps. Performing allows Chata to share what gives him enjoyment.

The students gain an appreciation for the movements and ceremonies associated with traditional African dances as Chata guides them in to how dancers and drummers communicate with the drum.

“I am writing this letter to heartily recommend Mr. Chata Addy’s extraordinary presentation of African culture and music…he had the rapt attention of even my most troublesome students (I teach young men with behavioral issues) for the entire hour! …Still, even more amazing than the response from students was the reaction if my admistrator: he has approved a music program and promises to have Mr. Addy back.
Chata Addy truly has a unique gift…I have seen nothing like him in the nine years I have taught here…especially look forward to having him back with us in the fall.”

Daniel S. Cowan, The Dalles, OR 2000

“Chata Addy offered a magnificent cultural program to my students during his performance in 1998. His program consisted of cultural music, drums, humor, stories and interactive participation by his audience…(his) relationship with his audience was brilliant.”

Maureen Sheedy, Marshal High School

“Perhaps his greatest attribute is his on-stage presence. With his talent and demeanor, he had the ability to excite our entire student body of over 800.
Chata Addy possesses everything you look for in a performer. He was bright, energetic, and extremely entertaining…’It was the greatest assembly in the history of Gladstone’, was the remark made by teachers and students alike. All in all, it is with the highest esteem that I recommend Chata Addy to anyone who wants to put on a successful assembly or performance.”

Leif Coorlim, Gladstone High School, 1997

“Amazing talent…Chata’s warm, friendly, upbeat style was a real hit (with even our 6th graders!)…nothing but positive comments…”

Kelly Fried, Principal, Oregon Trail Elementary School

“His solo performance was the highlight of our “Music In The Stacks” Series, and the most successful multicultural event of the year in terms of attendance and audience response…virtuosic musician…effectively communicates the commonality of being human…has a profound ability to engage each and every member of his audience in the musical experience, whatever their age or background…was also impressed with Mr. Addy’s professionalism: his evident years of musical experience, the degree to which he has honed his storytelling and interpretation of his instruments, and his costume. Above all, I admired how skillfully he included the audience in the fun. His joy in making music is infectious, and we had fun going along for the ride with him.”
