Christopher Kern has been playing Steel Pans since 1975. For many years, his band, Island Breeze, has thrilled audiences across the country with the lilting, haunting sound of the Caribbean Islands.
Steel "Drums" are made from 55 gallon barrels. They are an exquisite example of the success of making do with the materials at hand.
The band's repertoire includes all your Tropical favorites by Harry Belafonte, Andy Narell, A.C. Jobim, Jimmy Buffett and many others.
Christopher also plays Baroque tunes by J.S. Bach and many jazz hits, in addition to the "Island" favorites.
The band has played at Colleges and Universities across the USA. Locally, they have played at Portland State University, Reed College, The University of Oregon, The University of Washington and Concordia University.
A few of their many corporate clients include Nike, Inc., Nordstrom Stores, and The Oregon Symphony.
Over the years, they have played for countless weddings, concerts, grand openings, winetastings, and private and corporate celebrations of all kinds.
Christopher can play as a Soloist, or in a Duo with guitarist for smaller events, or with a Trio with bass, or Quartet or Quintet with percussion when you want to create sizzling nights on the dance floor.
For Tropical Celebrations, any time of year, the music of Island Breeze will help create the feel and ambience of the islands, sure to please any audience.
