Trumpet & Flugelhorn

In addition to playing in the popular variety dance band, The Swingline Cubs, Paul Mazzio contracts other musicians, and plays for touring shows including "Hello Dolly", "Fiddler On The Roof", "Damn Yankees", "The Producers", "Grease", "Full Monty", "Man of LaMancha", "Kiss Of The Spiderwoman", "Sound of Music", "Thoroughly Modern Millie", "Crazy For You", "West Side Story", and many others.

In 2005 he played and contracted shows for Wayne Newton, Smokey Robinson, and Frankie Valli.

He toured Europe with the Alan Jones Sextet Jazz Band, and recently played with The Temptations, Bobby Vinton, and the Arturo Sandoval Big Band.

Paul has also played with Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Natalie Cole, Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan, Cab Calloway, Lou Rawls, Clark Terry, Henry Mancini, Joel Grey, Milton Berle, Nelson Riddle, Guy Lombardo, Bob Crosby and Kathi Lee Gifford.

Paul also plays with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, and is an in-demand side man in all the finest local bands. In addition, Paul plays the elegant and thrilling Trumpet Voluntaries and Marches, and other Baroque favorites for wedding ceremonies.

Paul was honored with the Jack Rosenberg Memorial, Musician of the Month Award, in March, 1994, by the Jazz Society of Oregon.

Paul released his CD, Separate Reality, with bassist, Jake Kot, in September of 1997 to rave reviews. The Jazz Society of Oregon awarded it a 4 1/2 star rating out of 5. JSO reviewer, Michael Brewin called it a "first-rate example of progressive contemporary jazz - the way it was always meant to be played...(Paul) is a tremendous talent on the trumpet and flugelhorn...excellent musicianship throughout".

In addition to his own CD, his other recording credits include with a "Who's Who" list of many of the finest Portland-based artists such as Gino Vanelli, Tom Grant, Ben Wolfe, Randy Porter, Alan Jones, Gary Hobbs, Mary Kadderly, Victoria Corrigan, Valerie Day, Tall Jazz, Patrick Lamb, Sandin Wilson, Warren Rand, Ed Bennett, John Nilsen, Rubberneck, 3 Leg Torso, and many others

Paul Mazzio is a gifted ensemble player, an unmatched soloist, and is a much sought-after teacher with many students in the Portland Area.

He earned a Master's Degree in Music from University of Southern California, and a Bachelor's degree from North Texas State University, acclaimed for its outstanding jazz curriculum.

In 1991, he was a semi-finalist in the Louis Armstrong International Jazz Trumpet Competition.
