Sadly, Lloyd passed away from pancreatic cancer on September 17, 2007.
He was a fine man and a gifted musician and he will be greatly missed!
Lloyd Rice is a seasoned and polished professional who has been on the bandstand for nearly 45 years. A native Californian, he attended the Metropolitan School of Music in Chicago, and played in the U.S. Army Band.
Lloyd Rice has played with numerous Big Bands over the years, including in the Bay Area with John Handy, and Brew Moore; with Neal Hefti, and the Mike Vax Band featuring Art Pepper; also in the Jack Fina and Anson Weeks Bands, and with Ivory Joe Hunter's Blues Band.
Lloyd Rice has also played behind singers Vic Damone, Carol Channing, and Lou Rawls.
Lloyd Rice toured for many years, playing and singing on cruise ships such as American President Lines, Pacific Far East Lines, Matson Lines, Sitmar Lines, and Delta Steamship Lines, Inc., which sails around the tip of South America.
In Portland, he has played with Border Patrol, Eddie Wied, Gary Hobbs, Dick Blake, George Mitchell, Jeff Uusitalo, and with Keith Warner's, "Swing Review".
Lloyd Rice is also the regular saxophone player in the Kim Ralphs & Company Band, where he specializes in singing all the great hits made famous by Frank Sinatra.
