The idea to start Northwest Artist Management in early 1989, grew out of Nancy Anne Tice's volunteer work with the Portland Opera and a life-long love of great music.
During her tenure with the Portland Opera, Nancy spent a year as the president of the volunteer organization, Friends of Portland Opera, was a member of the Board of Directors and organized and produced a variety of entertainment for the promotion of the Opera season for five years.
From that organizational and production work, she started Northwest Artist Management with several of the artists that she had worked with at the Opera.
As a child she studied classical piano and later, the violin. While a student at Lewis & Clark College, she studied the violin with Boris Sirpo, who was a protégé of the great Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius. In 1968 she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State University.
Starting in 1989, Nancy spent three years as a Board Member of the Portland Chamber Orchestra, where she designed and produced their concert programs, handled publicity with various media sources and served on the committee that selected their new conductor.
In 1991, in conjunction with her new interest in Jazz, she became the idea originator and associate producer for PDX Jazz Summit, a seven part jazz series, featuring the finest Portland based musicians, televised on Oregon Public Broadcasting. As a result, she was invited to join the Board of Directors for the Jazz Society of Oregon.
During her association with the Jazz Society of Oregon, she wrote and was awarded a grant from the Oregon Arts Commission to produce a workshop clinic called the Gist of Jazz, held at Portland State University in 1993.
Nancy published an article regarding the PDX Jazz Summit program in the Jazz Society's monthly magazine, the JazzScene. From this article she was invited to write a monthly column entitled "Notes & Chords". In it she profiles Portland based jazz artists with news of tours, awards, recordings and special concerts and gigs. She has also contributed to a cover story, special concert stories, and profiles for the Musician of the Month. October 2004 marked her thirteenth anniversary as a contributing writer to the JazzScene. Notes & Chords is published on the website every month.
In the summer of 1999, Northwest Artist Management was the first professional agency ever contracted to book the music for the 19th annual Cathedral Park Jazz Festival and the Blue Heron Blues Festival. Nancy's duties included contracting national and Portland based talent, promotion, and organizing a student clinic presented by national Jazz headliners.
With many years of business experience, Nancy takes pride in creating special entertainment options for private and corporate functions in the Pacific Northwest and Canada. She has also booked engagements for clients as far away as London, England, South Korea and most of the 50 United States.
