Alderbrook wraps up inaugural concert series

Nancy Tice:  about Alderbrook Park, she bubbles over with enthusiasm.
"Have you seen the pink lemonade fountain?" she asks. "It’s amazing."
Tice is head of the Northwest Artist Management company, and has been in charge of scheduling music acts to perform at the Brush Prairie property throughout the summer. With more than 20 years in the industry, Tice pulled from an array of musicians who never fail to be dependable, marketable and fun.
"I’ve been part of the Portland Visitor’s Association for many years, and recently took a group of members up there to see it," Tice said. "It’s an Oregon group, but they all agreed that there was nothing like the park anywhere in, well, Oregon."
Tice faced a time crunch when she signed on to market and promote the newly-renovated park. She took the position in the first part of June and immediately worked on getting the word out about the Wednesday night concert series that started a month later. In the world of advertising and promoting performance artists, one month leaves no seconds to spare.
"I think we’ve been able to steadily build our audiences," she said, which she partially credits to the assortment of acts that have played at the venue.
Organizers incorporated an assortment of different music genres for the performance series to appeal to as large a demographic as possible, but kept an emphasis on wholesome, family-friendly entertainment.
"This has been our maiden voyage," she said. "We’ve been planting seeds this season and I have high hopes for a flourishing season next year."
The final concert in the summer series is the Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band The Cheeseburgers. They perform Wed., Aug. 31. Park gates will open at 5:30 p.m., and the band performs from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
"We’ll see how many parrot-heads we can get in there," said Tice, referring to the term used by Jimmy Buffet fans.
Tickets cost $10, $30 for a family of four and $5 for children 11 and younger. Purchase tickets in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com, or at the Park.
Concerts take place on the Great Meadow Stage, and visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and beach chairs to relax. A variety of food booths will offer local picnic favorites and there will be a beer garden for adults.
The park is open to the public, Mon.-Fri., 11 a.m.-9 p.m. A $5 admission fee grants access to playgrounds, swimming pools and a series of other park amenities. Weekends at Alderbrook are reserved for private events such as weddings and corporate picnics.
